Please note that Onsego offers online CAEC prep classes. For more information or to take the exam, visit the Alberta CAEC website.
In Calgary, you need to be 18 to be eligible for CAEC testing, though 17-year-olds may qualify as well if they meet additional strict criteria. Please contact your CAEC administrator.
If you want to earn your CAEC diploma in Calgary, you’ll have to meet Alberta’s high school equivalency requirements.
In Calgary, you are not required to take a prep course prior to taking the CAEC exam through an adult education program, nor are you required to first attain sufficient results on the official CAEC practice test before you can write the exam.
However, as the CAEC test is rather challenging, you are advised to become well-prepared by, for example, signing up for accredited Canadian CAEC online classes like the affordable program designed by Onsego.
In Calgary, you have the option to take the five CAEC sub-exams on paper or on a computer, and if you wish, you may even combine them.
The Five CAEC Subtests
You can earn your High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma by passing the five separate modules (independent subtests) that make up the CAEC (Canadian Adult Education Credential, pronounced like “cake”) exam.
The five CAEC subtests test knowledge and skills in the following academic subject areas:
- Language Arts Writing (part 1 & part 2)
- Language Arts Reading
- Mathematics (part 1 & part 2)
- Social Studies
- Science
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for high school equivalency testing, CAEC applicants are required to meet the following criteria:
- CAEC candidates must be Alberta residents of at least 18 years old, though 17-year-olds may also qualify if they meet some extra strict requirements.
- CAEC candidates must have been officially withdrawn from school for at least a period of 10 months.
- CAEC candidates cannot already hold a high school or equivalent diploma.
- There are more requirements that must be met, so please contact your CAEC administrator or a test center in your area.
Practically all colleges and employers accept the CAEC as the equivalent of a common high school diploma. Passing the five sub-exams that make up the Canadian CAEC exam will give you the CAEC diploma.
