In Texas, students can take the GED exam in an online format. To qualify for online GED testing, however, they are required to reach passing scores (in the ‘green’ zone) on the official GED Ready practice test.
The GED exam includes four independent sub-exams, and for each sub-exam, there is a GED Ready test that the students need to purchase for $6.99 on the website GED.com.

Registration for both the GED exam and the GED Ready test is done online by creating an account on the GED.com website. In Texas, GED testing is only available to state residents.
Texas GED Online Price
The Texas online GED exam costs $42.25 per sub-exam. So, the total cost in Texas is $169, but keep in mind that online GED test-takers must also pay $28 for four GED Ready tests. So their total cost is $197.

When GED students sit for the four sub-exams at one of Texas’ testing centers, the price is $36.25 per individual GED subtest or $145 for the full battery.

What’s On The GED Test?

The GED modules are measured on a scale from 100 to 200. The following scores apply:
- 100-144: Below Passing
- 145-164: High School Equivalency Score
- 165-174: College Ready Score
- 175-200: College Ready plus Credits
How To Register For The GED Test?
With the GED exam, you can take, register for, and pay for each of the four subtests individually. To sign up for the GED exam or the GED Ready test, you need to set up an account on GED.com, and in the portal MyGED, you can register, schedule, and pay for your test appointments.
Prepare Well
Texas does not require test-takers to register for a GED prep course first. It is strongly advised, though, to get perfectly prepared for the exam as it is quite challenging.
